Actions you can take today to close the military prison at Guantanamo
Dear Friends,
Today marks the eighth anniversary of the arrival of the first prisoners from the War on Terror at the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. All these years later, after reports of torture and the denial of civil liberties to detainees, there is still much work to be done to ensure lawful interrogations and prosecutions of terror suspects. Closing
Guantanamo is an important step in the right direction. And yet, a year
after President Obama signed an Executive Order ordering the closing of
the prison, these goals still seem remote.
Together with activists across the country, we are asking you today to take action
with your elected officials and in your community to help close
Guantanamo. These actions include:
- A sample sermon for this week's Torah reading
- Sending an email to your Members of Congress
- An interfaith prayer you can use in your community
- Additional resources from the National Religious Campaign Against Torture
I hope that you will join us today in this important work.
All the best,
